This will indicate to you where to place the tongue. Now pronounce the following Spanish words containing r. Make sure your tongue flips against the gum ridge behind your upper front teeth:

bandera, bolígrafo, libro, profesor, puerta, América, pero, triste

TRILL: A single R at the beginning of a word in a breath group and a single R that follows a consonante, usually l, n, or s, is trilled. The trill is like the tap, except that is multiple. Just place the tip of your tongue on the alveolar ridge as you did for the R sound of the previous words, and let it vibrate strongly.

revista, religión, regular, Enrique , alrededor, ratón

The RR is considered to be one letter in Spanish and is pronounced like the single trill R. Remember that the tongue flips against the gum ridge three or four times.

pizarra, borrador, Monterrey, guitarra, correcto, zorro
