Telegram of Support (S683: 1910)

Editor Charles H. Smith's Note: Wallace sent a short telegram of support that was read at the 29th annual meeting of the Land Nationalisation Society, held 18 April 1910. The message as transcribed below was included on page 51 of the May 1910 issue of Land and Labour, but also appeared, in slightly different wording, as part of news coverage printed on page 9 of the 19 April 1910 issue of The Daily News (London). [[p. 51]]...During the proceedings the following telegram from the President, Dr. Alfred Russel Wallace, was read:—

"When Lords' veto is abolished, the road will be open towards Land Nationalisation. But rural voters must be freed from intimidation. The most effective way is to enact the inviolability of the home, as I proposed in Vox Clamantium, 1894. I commend this to your consideration, with hearty congratulations."
