(S575b: 1900)

Editor Charles H. Smith's Note: Wallace's brief response to this general enquiry was included in a short sketch of him entitled 'Dr. Alfred Russel Wallace' printed on pages 10-11 of the January 1900 issue of The Puritan: An Illustrated Magazine for Free Churchmen.     "The New Century's greatest need is, in my opinion, to strive gradually but surely to put into practice the great ethical principle involved in the term 'the brotherhood of man,' and admirably expressed by Mr. Kidd in his Social Evolution by the term 'equality of opportunity' for everyone alike.
