     . . . Dr. Wallace informed the Inspector that many in the district did not believe in altogether getting rid of manurial products, as was proposed by this scheme of sending the sewage out to sea. He submitted that there was hardly any district in England affording greater facilities of utilising the sewage on the land, and that this could be done at a minimum expense. He was of opinion that the rise and fall of the tides would inevitably force back the sewer gases so as to be prejudicial to health . . .
