Poe is known for horror stories filled with gruesome
details. However, Poe is also the father
of the detective story. This page explores
Poe's life and what may have compelled him to write
such stories. Then, two of Poe's famous
detective stories are analyzed through comparison
and contrast. To do this, we must dig into
Poe's puzzling life and mind.
Poe loved puzzles. He felt he could solve any cryptogram. His love of puzzles motivated him to become the first author to delve into a world of mysterious writings. Whether intending to or not, Poe created a new genre full of suspense, drama, and horror, similar to Poe's life. This page has been designed to familiarize visitors with Poe's background.
