Mt. Everest towers above Nepal and Tibet in Asia.  The mountain's elevation is around 29,035 feet.  Nepal has named the mountain Sagarmatha, meaning "goddess of the sky."  Tibet has named it Chomolungma, meaning "mother goddess of the universe."  Winds reach high rates of speed at the summit (top).   In fact, the winds can be compared with the strength of a mild hurricane.  However, many face the treacherous weather and conditions to reach the summit.  Those who make it are overjoyed with their accomplishment.  However, the mouton has claimed the lives of many; one hundred and twenty corpses are lost on Mt. Everest.  Storms and avalanches arise quickly and unexpectedly.

However, your journey to Mt. Everest in this WebQuest is entirely safe.  First, we will explore a possibility for Mt. Everest's creation.  Then, you will climb to the next level and explore the Sherpas.  The next level involves studying the camps for climbers along the mountain.  Finally, you will track a local hero as she tries to reach the top.
