Guidelines for the Paper Proposal Assignment

The first of three assignments related to the research project is the research paper proposal.

The research paper proposal should be no more than one page in length. Proposals longer than one page will not be accepted or graded, nor will extensions be granted.

The research paper proposal must be typed.

The proposal must include the following information:

• your name, the class number, and the date.

• the proposed research topic, including the subject matter, the relative time period, and the geographic focus as appropriate.

• the reason why this topic was selected.

• the main ideas that will be covered in the paper; in other words, indicate in specific ways how you will narrow down the proposed topic.

• full citations for at least three reference sources to be used in researching the paper.

The proposal is worth up to 25 points.

The paper proposal is due at the beginning of class on Friday, September 15.  Late proposals will not be accepted unless prior arrangements are made with the instructor.
