NOCTILIONIDAE (Bulldog Bats)

The Noctilionidae is a family of microchiropteran bats represented by two living species: Noctilio
albiventris
(Central America, and northern and central South America) and Noctilio leporinus (central
and southern Mexico, Central America, the West Indies, and northern and central South America).
The limits to their distribution in central Brazil are not yet known. Noctilionids are also known as
"fishing bats" for their unique predatory habits.
