The Caviidae subfamily Hydrochoerinae is recognized by Wilson and Reeder
as
including two
living genera: Hydrochoerus (two species, the capybaras, eastern
Panama
southward to central
Argentina), and Kerodon (two species, eastcentral
to northeastern
Brazil). An introduced
population of Kerodon rupestris exists
on Fernando de Noronha.
