Housing

We will post more definite housing information as it becomes available. At the current time, we expect to stay in apartments on Sarphatistraat or Plantage Muidergracht 20.

Transportation

You will receive tram/bus passes each week. This entitles you to unlimited rides on the trams, busses (including night busses), and subway in Amsterdam operated by GVB. Your apartments are convenient to both tram and subway (if they are operational) stops along with a night bus.

Language

While you are able to participate fully without understanding the language, it is polite for you to know some elementary phrases in the native language. It will buy you quite a bit in terms of respect. While people around you may be speaking Dutch, Flemish, Frisian, French, German, or a variety of other languages and you have no idea of what they are saying, do not assume they do not know what you are saying. Thus, be careful what you say.

Here is a web site with common Dutch words with sound. Learn some common words. Know how to say please, thank you, nice to meet you, hello, and good bye. There may be other words that come in handy.

Student Handbook

Here is a link to a draft of the 2015 Student Handbook. We will post the 2015 Student Handbook when the flight and housing details are complete.

Orientation
