Game 4: Negative Punishment (aka Response Cost)

Do the undesired behavior and a desirable stimulus is subtracted or lost.

Pick incorrectly and you are fined and the software doesn't love you as much as it did before. Pick correctly and no comment is made.

1.red square white oval
2.black diamond blue circle
3.black oval blue diamond

4.white circle

red parallelogram
5.black triangle blue clover
6. red octagon white rectangle

How did you feel after this trial?

If the statements in the pop-up box truly functioned as a negative punisher for you, you might feel unpleasant in some way and your behavior would have decreased in some way--perhaps you clicked more tentatively or softer. Or maybe it punished working on the game so that you got up and left the computer. I can't say what your behavior changed to because punishers don't teach people what to do, they only teach what to not do. (This exercise also constrains your options for behavior.)

Next game: Extinction
