ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS: 3.3 Students demonstrate the ability to be adaptable and flexible through appropriate tasks or projects. 1.1 Students use reference tools such as dictionaries, almanacs, encyclopedias, and computer reference programs and research tools such as interviews and surveys to find the information they need to meet specific demands, explore interests, or solve specific problems.

OVERVIEW OF WEBQUEST ACTIVITES:

Task One-The Modern Age

  1. Students will research the Modern Age using the websites listed.
  2. Students will print the attached worksheet for the webbing activity.
  3. Students will use their critical thinking skills to web titles of Ernest Hemingway books and short stories.
  4. Students will expand their knowledge by making extensions off the books to possible events that could have influenced their writing.

Task Two-Hemingway's Colleagues

  1. Students will exercise their reading skills through their reading of an autobiography and short story.
  2. Students will practice their writing skills by composing a plot summary of what they have read.
  3. Students will expand their knowledge of authors during the Modern Period.
  4. Students will identify the selected authors with other readings during the semester.

Task Three-Hemingway's Life

  1. Students will view pictures from Hemingway's life.
  2. Students will read biographies on Hemingway's experiences.
  3. Students will create a timeline concerning the major events in Hemingway's life.
  4. Students will select creative and appropriate pictures to illustrate their timeline.
  5. Students will practice using MLA format for illustrations and documentation.

Task Four-"Hills Like White Elephants"

  1. Students will read the story "Hills Like White Elephants."
  2. Auditory learners can listen to the story.
  3. Students will analyze the story-plot, characters, theme, etc.
  4. Students will ask questions using a discussion board when needing help from their peers.
  5. Students will prepare for study questions and an exam.

Study Questions

  1. Students will use their knowledge and research material to answer questions.
  2. Students will visit university or college websites for more study questions concerning Task Four.
  3. Students will take an online test over the story in Task Four.
