Requirements for Final Gould
Paper
The final product for the Gould reading is a summary and response
paper.
The text will be six to eight pages in length, and the paper is worth
up to 100
points.
Specific requirements are outlined below. Points will be deducted if
these requirements are not met.
REQUIRED CONTENTS
Each paper must have the following parts, arranged in the order
listed below
- Title page -- center the
following information horizontally and vertically on the title page:
- Abstract -- a
one-paragraph summary of your paper
- put the heading
ABSTRACT
centered at the top of the page
- do not number the page with the abstract
- the text of the abstract is single spaced
- the paragraph is indented
- start numbering pages with page 1 at the bottom
right
- if appropriate, use centered headings for each section
- if you use
headed
sections, don't start new sections on separate pages
- the body must be between six (full) and eight pages in length
You don not need to provide a bibliography since we are all using
the
same reference materials (Gould, Mielke et al., lecture).
PAGE LAYOUT FOR TEXT
- one-inch margins on all sides
- don't skip extra lines between paragraphs
- use 10-12 point fonts only
- use left justification (not full)
- staple once in upper left
corner
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- All non-original information
must be cited
appropriately.
- Be sure to spell check -
you will lose points for excessive
spellings.
- Be sure to grammar check
or proof read somehow - you will lose
points
for excessive grammatical errors.
- Be sure your paper has a clearly stated thesis. I will look
for
one.
- Be sure each paragraph has a clearly stated topic sentence.
- I like well-organized
papers and paragraphs.
- Be mindful of the page limits.
Papers that exceed eight pages of text will be accepted, but only the
first eight pages will be graded, which will result in point
deductions. Papers will fewer than six full pages of text will be
accepted, but major point deductions will be taken for each page fewer
than six.
- Papers will not be considered for a grade of "A" (based on
content)
unless they follow all the guidelines
specified herein. In other
words, you could write an outstanding paper in terms of content, but if
you don't follow the guidelines (for instance, improper citations, no
abstract,
not stapled in upper left, etc.) you will not get an A.
