NOTORYCTIDAE
(Marsupial Moles)
The Notoryctidae is a family of subterranean marsupials confined to the
arid central regions
of
Australia. Its two living representatives are Notoryctes typhlops
(Northern Territory,
southeastern
Western Australia, and western and northern South Australia), and Notoryctes
caurinus (northeastern
Western Australia); some authorities do not distinguish these as
separate
species. The family is assigned
to the Order Notoryctemorphia.
