  • Agath Harpell - living - A brother of Malchor Harpell, this arcane devotee of Selune is the spiritual leader of Longsaddle and is responsible for the raising of Dagsumn and Kyrss Wands.

  • Alastor Land - deceased - This restless spirit of a teenager helped the party open a door in the Whispering Cairn after they laid to rest the bodies of him and his family after recovering them from Filge. He later appeared to Lyrin within the Citadel of Weeping Dragons and revealed their relation to the Djen of old. Through his assistance, Lyrin was able to open the vault doors to Dragotha's phylactery.

  • Auric - deceased - Although never a mortal enemy, Auric was an antagonist for some time. He was a boastful adventurer when the party first met him in Daggerford when he was exploring the wrong cairn. He was later an opponent in the Champion's Games. In the end, they fought on the same side against the Apostle of Kyuss, but Auric was slain in the process.

  • Balakarde - unknown - Balakarde is an associate of Malchor Harpell who became obsessed with the Age of Worms and Kyuss. He succeeded in discovering Kyuss' ruined city of Kuluth-Mar and even visited the location. He was unable to penetrate into the Spire of Long Shadows. After returning from Kuluth-Mar, Balakarde went off following some additional leads and disappeared. Even magical divination reveals no clues regarding Balakarde's fate. Malchor Harpell believes he travelled to Mintarn. According to Lashonna, he traveled to the Wormcrawl Fissure in search of Dragotha.

  • Baroness Piann Cromm - living - This aging woman rules Cromm's Hold and keeps an eye on the lizardfolk of the Lizard Marsh. She inherited this post from her husband and son when they were killed by the Blue Feather lizardfolk several years back.

  • B'Kruss - living - This massive hobgoblin claims to lead the mercenary team, the Knights of Nelanther. Upon encountering the party, he challenged them to a series of competions within Mintarn, including a race through town, leaping from roof to roof and wrestling his dire boar, Gristlegape. The party defeated him in the competitions and later encountered him at the gala held by Tarnheel Embuirhan.

  • Broogle - living - This bugbear became a guide and ally to the Mercenaries during the siege of Kongen-Thulnir. He stayed with them until they fulfilled their promise to free him by taking him to Longsaddle.

  • Celeste - living - Not much is known about this pretty blond except that she is an ally of Dagsumn who managed to get the sage and his wife raised to life by Agath Harpell. She has been present in several meetings with Dagsumn and with Cymria, but her role is yet to be discerned.

  • Cymria - living - This headstrong moon elf eldritch knight is an apprentice and right hand of Malchor Harpell in Longsaddle. Her power is yet to be revealed, but it is known that Malchor only takes the best and brightest as students.

  • Dagsumn - living - An apprentice of Malchor Harpell and fellow student with Delfen, this sage assisted the party in their investigations into the Age of Worms in Waterdeep. He and his wife, Kyrss Wands were murdered by Pitch Blade but later returned to life by Agath Harpell.

  • Darl Quethos - living - This high priest of Myrkul possesses the hand of Myrkul and learned from Heskin the location of Tilagos Island. He is a known enemy of Lashonna. He and his minions allied with the party to complete the Trials of Tilagos and learn the secrets of the Library of Last Resort. His current whereabouts are unknown.

  • Delfen "Yellowknife" Ondabar - living - The wizard of note from the small town of Daggerford. He is the original teacher to Lyrin, although the student has now surpassed the master. Delfen has been of some aid from the beginning, although he now realizes the Age of Worms is far beyond his ability to hinder.

  • Flycatcher - living - This is either one shadow spider with multiple personalities, or multiple shadow spiders. Other spiders could include Cornerweaver, the Hungry Prince, Blackleg, Walker Across the Threshold and Spitgob. All of the spiders (one spider?) seemed to communicate in an almost stream-of-consciousness gibberish. Despite his (their?) frustrating nature, Flycatcher proved good to his word and helped the party collect the treasures of Icosiol's Tomb in return for the head of Moreto.

  • Hishka - living - The new leader of the Redeye lizardfolk tribe, this shaman turned against the lizardfolk king, Redeye, and helped the party find Ilthane's corrupted dragon egg.

  • Lady Aridarye Phylund Brokengulf - deceased - This scandalous whore has slept her way up through the ranks of wealth and prestige in Waterdeep. It is rumored she is a black widow, having arranged the death of many lovers and husbands. Her son was slain in the aftermath of her husband, Prendergast, summoning an Apostle of Kyuss. Despite her wicked ways, Aridarye has joined the party on the hunt for Prendergast and vengeance for her slain son. She hates Kyuss with a burning passion. She seems to have taken a liking to Iapetus and sticks close to his side. Aridarye met her end at the hands of her ex-husband, Prendergast Brokengulf, when he decapitated her just inside the Wormcrawl Fissure.

  • Lashonna - living - This elven noblewoman lives in Mistwall Manor in Mintarn and is known for her opposition to the Ebon Triad. She is a notable citizen of the city and can often be found with Tyrant Tarnheel Embuirhan. She provided the party with the information needed to find Tilagos Island and its hidden library. She indicated Balakarde had sought out the lair of Dragotha in the Wormcrawl Fissure and never returned. One of her known enemies is Darl Quethos. Was seen in a dream-vision fighting Dragotha 1,500 years ago when the armies of Kyuss last marched. In the vision, she took the form of a silver dragon and was slain by Dragotha in the battle.

  • Long Sleep Bradic Scytheswing - living - This tall human is the high priest of Kelemvor in Mintarn.

  • Lord Urtos Phylund II - unknown - He is the stepson of Aridarye and believes she murdered his father when she was married to him. He sponsored the party, the Mercenaries, as a team in the Champion's Games. He revealed to the party that he suffered from lycanthropy as a werewolf. It is unknown if he survived Waterdeep.

  • Malchor Harpell - living - As the most powerful archmage in Longsaddle, Malchor is revered by the residents as a master of magic. In a town occupied almost solely by arcanists, that is saying something. He is a powerful man with many connections, which he is using to try and gather more information for the party. He is the one who sent the group to Kuluth-Mar and the Spire of Long Shadows in the footsteps of Balakarde. He also traded numerous magical items in exchange for the party's fragment of the Shattered Scepter of Calim. Malchor is the owner of the fountain of fortune's folly.

  • Malhazar - living - The Exiled Flame is a very old and powerful efreet who claims to have been thrown out of the Elemental Plane of Fire because he almost overthrew the Sultan of the Efreeti. This flaming giant travels with Darl Quethos and rides a massive nightmare named Black Fire.

  • Marzena - living - This apprentice of Delfen had been kidnapped by the Redeye lizardfolk tribe and dragged into their lair in the Lizard Marsh. She serves as the arcane military adviser at Cromm's Hold.

  • Nalhazzarath - living - This terrible horned devil is bonded to Darl Quethos. He hates Darl and all of his other minions, but his binding to the devil is too strong for him to slay the priest. If ever Darl's control slips for a moment, a bloodbath will ensue.

  • Szentarr Ravin - living - This dwarven merchant runs the Deluxury in Mintarn. He is shaved bald but keeps a long, braided black bearn (slightly gray) that ends with a humanoid skull. The skull could be from a halfling or goblin. He is very wealthy and was able to provide the party with invitations to the gala of Tyrant Tarnheel Embuirhan.

  • Apostle of Kyuss - deceased - This advanced ulgurstasta was elevated to the title and power of an Apostle of Kyuss by the combined efforts of Bozal Zahol and Prendergast Brokengulf utilizing the Apostolic Scrolls. The Apostle came to full power when it consumed Auric in the Champion's Games and turned him into a spawn of Kyuss. At that moment, a wave of negative energy killed thousands of spectators and converted them into wights. Eventually, the Apostle was defeated by the defenders of Waterdeep, but it succeeded in slaughtering thousands before it was destroyed.

  • Captain Okoral - unknown - This despicable human being served as Prendergast Brokengulf's right hand man. Although arrayed in the finery of a guard captain, Okoral is little more than a leg breaker and murderer. He managed the dwarven gladiator team, Pitch Blade. Okoral is suspected by the party to have led Pitch Blade in a murderous raid against Dagsumn and Kyrss Wands. He may not have survived Waterdeep.

  • Dragotha - living - Dragotha was mentioned in a curse by Ilthane when she ambushed the party outside of the Whispering Cairn. The party has since found Dragotha to be the name of an ancient general of Kyuss, perhaps even as far back as his mortal days. Dragotha is a massive red dragon who, at some point, snatched Kyuss' prison monolith and flew off with it. According to Lashonna, his lair is located in the Wormcrawl Fissure. According to the wild watchers of the Order of the Storm, his phylactery was hidden in Kongen-Thulnir; it was destroyed by Lyrin with a disintegrate spell.

  • Faceless One - deceased - A foul arcane devotee of Myrkul, he served as the high priest of the Ebon Triad in the Ironeater Mine.

  • Filge - deceased - This foul Waterdhavian necromancer had created a small cadre of undead in the old observatory outside of Daggerford. He had ties to Kullen and Smenk. The party defeated his undead, captured Filge, and eventually released him to scurry off. He turned up many long months later at the side of Prendergast Brokengulf inside the Wormcrawl Fissure. At some point, he had been transformed into a dread wight and wielded tremendous necromantic power. He killed several of the Mercenaries with his dark magicks before being destroyed.

  • Gazzilfek - deceased - This creature, a spriggan, originally served as the Ominous Fabler for Tyrant Tarnheel Embuirhan. The group later ran into him outside of Skull Gorge, where he joined up with them. Inside the vault of the Citadel of Weeping Dragons, Gazzilfek revealed himself to be an undead writhing with Kyuss worms who attempted to steal the phylactery of Dragotha. After failing in that task, he fled via magic to parts unknown. He later assaulted the party in an ambush along with Prendergast Brokengulf and Filge within the Wormcrawl Fissure. He was destroyed in the resulting battle, but not before he helped the amushers slay several of the Mercenaries.

  • Grallak Kur - deceased - This bizarre grimlock cleric of Bhaal had stitched beholder eyes into the sockets of his face. He fought a valiant fight against the PCs but eventually fell to the slaughter. Soon after, Valgen had his first vision after sniffing the fumes of Grallak's "wacky weed" fungus.

  • Heskin - deceased - This man Lashonna once worked for Lashonna but betrayed her to her enemy, Darl Quethos. During a greater scrying, the party observed Heskin's murder by Darl Quethos.

  • Ilserv - deceased - This wicked mind flayer sorcerer was the mastermind behind the doppelgangers at Sodden Hold in Waterdeep. His sewer lair was a deadly challenge for the PCs, but they eventually slaughtered the aberration.

  • Kullen - deceased - This half-orc barbarian was the leader of a group of thugs in Daggerford who were involved in stealing the bodies of the Land family. Kullen was found dead by decapitation.

  • Moreto - deceased - The Marquis of Ravenstone was a true ghoul, a form of undead native to the deep Underdark. He attempted to take the artifacts from Icosiol's Tomb from the party. Moreto was an enemy of Flycatcher.

  • Prendergast Brokengulf - unknown - This master of the Field of Triumph in Waterdeep had fallen into the poisonous clutches of Bozal Zahol and the cult of Kyuss. He succeeded in resurrecting an Apostle of Kyuss and killing thousands of Waterdhavians in the process. He is directly responsible for the death of Eol Seregon, now a spawn of Kyuss. For his mass murder, Prendergast was rewarded by his dark god with a transformation into undeath. Afterward he fled to parts unknown astride a flaming black horse. Prendergast is the husband of Lady Aridarye Phylund Brokengulf. Prendergast ambushed the Mercenaries inside the Wormcrawl Fissure and decapitated Lady Aridarye Phylund Brokengulf. He was later destroyed by Taravin, but his incorporeal spirit escaped. His current whereabouts and condition are unknown.

  • Redeye - deceased - This crazed lizardfolk had allied with Ilthane the black dragon to try and increase the power of his tribe. He became deluded about his power and challenged Waterdeep by trying to sack Cromm's Hold. His magical trident is still in use by sometimes party member, Zebaum.

  • Telakin - deceased - This greater doppelganger was a thrall of Ilserv and a master of shapeshifting. He could change from raging orc barbarian to spellslinging wizard in an instant. His trap-filed lair, Sodden Hold, nearly claimed the lives of the party, but they finally turned the tide and brought down the menace.

  • Bane - living - God of Strife - Bane was once a mortal who traveled with Bhaal and Myrkul. They eventually fought their way to the side of the deity, Jergal, who gave up the bulk of his divine power and divided it among the three. Bane was slain by the demi-god, Torm, in 1358 DR during the Time of Troubles. Many of his worshippers turned to venerating his son, Iyachtu Xvim; however, in 1372 DR, Bane "hatched" from Xvim and regained his title as Lord of Tyrants.

  • Bhaal - deceased - God of Murder - Bhaal was once a mortal who traveled with Bane and Myrkul. They eventually fought their way to the side of the deity, Jergal, who gave up the bulk of his divine power and divided it among the three. Bhaal was slain by the mortal, Cyric, in 1358 DR during the Time of Troubles. Cyric used the sword Godsbane to strike down the lord of murder. After the Time of Troubles ended, Cyric ascended as a deity in place of Bhaal (and Bane and Myrkul).

  • Jergal - living - God of Evil - Long ago, Jergal was the most powerful deity of evil known to the Realms; however, over the aeons he grew bored with godhood. When the Dead Three, Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul, came to challenge him for his power, he willingly gave it up. He reduced his strength to a demi-god and became the scribe of the dead and servant to Myrkul. Although Myrkul was replaced by Cyric, and later by Kelemvor, Jergal retained his role as seneschal to the reigning god of death.

  • Kossuth - living - God of Fire - Kossuth is one of the primordial deities of the elements—in this case, fire. He can be consuming and capricious and long ago gathered together the Army of Chaos that waged war against the Wind Dukes and the goddess of air, Akadi.
  • Kyuss - living - Wormgod - Once a mortal, Kyuss succeeded in harnessing the souls and faiths of thousands of his followers in a terrible ritual in his jungle city of Kuluth-Mar. In that moment, he attained divinity, but something went wrong and trapped Kyuss within a monolith atop his Spire of Long Shadows. At some point thereafter, an ancient red dragon snatched the monolith and disappeared to parts unknown. Kyuss' current fate is unknown, but his cultists continue to gain divine power and seek to usher in the apocalyptic Age of Worms.

  • Myrkul - deceased - God of the Dead - Myrkul was once a mortal who traveled with Bane and Bhaal. They eventually fought their way to the side of the deity, Jergal, who gave up the bulk of his divine power and divided it among the three. During the Time of Troubles in 1358 DR, Myrkul was blasted into pieces by the goddess of magic, Mystra. His powers were briefly claimed by Cyric and eventually given to Kelemvor. Darl Quethos is a known high priest of Myrkul.

  • Auric's Warband - This adventuring group was first encountered in Daggerford and again later in Waterdeep. Membership included: Auric, Khellek, and Tiira.

  • Cult of the Ebon Triad - Comprised of heretics from the faiths of Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul, this cult actively works to bring about the resurrection and unification of the "Dead Three" into an Overgod. The cult may be onto something, because Bane has successfully returned from death. Some evidence shows the cult of the Ebon Triad may be a front for the sinister machinations of the cult of Kyuss. Known members of the Ebon Triad includes: the Faceless One, Grallak Kur, and Theldrick.

  • Cult of Kyuss - This small group of fanatics worships the dreaded Wormgod, Kyuss. They seem to be involved in an apocalyptic Age of Worms. They are somehow involved with the cult of the Ebon Triad. The most prominent members the party has discovered includes: Bozal Zahol, Dragotha, Ilthane, and Prendergast Brokengulf.

  • Harpells - The Harpells are a family of arcane casters who rule the township of Longsaddle. They are known as eccentric and dangerous wizards, not for their malice, but because of their obsession with magic. Their most prominent, powerful member is the archmage Malchor Harpell. His brother, Agath Harpell is the family's spiritual leader.

  • Order of the Storm - This group of druids defeated Kyuss over 1,500 years ago by stealing, and hiding, the phylactery of Dragotha. Most of the Order was later destroyed by the remnants of the cult of Kyuss. The survivors fled to Tilagos Island and made a pact with elemental forces to hide the island, and its library, from the outside world. Hid the phylactery of Dragotha in the ancient city of Kongen-Thulnir.

  • Pitch Blade - These dwarven gladiators were managed by Captain Okoral and fought the party in the Champion's Games. Later, the dwarves murdered Dagsumn and Kyrss Wands.

  • Tiamikal Nul-Shada - These giants from Kongen-Thulnir were the "Hunters of Tiamat's Children" and protectors of Dragotha's phylactery.

Places

Adventure Sites

  • Cromm's Hold - This keep was built long ago to help protect against marauding lizardfolk from the Lizard Marshes. The party found it under siege by the Redeye tribe and later had their first encounter with a spawn of Kyuss within.
  • Ironeater Mine - This mine operates near Daggerford. Deep underneath, the party discovered a cell of cult of the Ebon Triad and eradicated them on behalf of Balabar Smenk.

  • Sodden Hold - This old warehouse in Waterdeep served as the secret hideout of the greater doppelganger, Telakin and his minions. Deep within the bowels of the complex the party found a connection to the sewers and discovered the presence of Ilserv the mind flayer.

  • Spire of Long Shadows - This ancient ziggurat is located deep in the jungle of Chult in the ruins of Kuluth-Mar. According to the visions received by the party, it is the place where Kyuss ascended to godhood but was subsequently trapped. The monolith prison is no longer atop the Spire; it was stolen away by a red dragon. The Spire is surrounded by an obsidian ring inscribed with the words "Kyuss Forever Bound".

  • Tilagos Island - This island in the Mintarn island chain is shrouded in an ever-present gale. It serves as the final stronghold of the Order of the Storm druids. The island connects to a demi-plane known only as Last Resort, which contains knowledge locked away by the druids. It is said to hold the secret of the location of Dragotha's phylactery.

  • Whispering Cairn - Located a short distance from Daggerford, this was the first location explored by the party and was revealed to be the tomb of Zosiel, one of the Wind Dukes. Later excavation by Delfen "Yellowknife" Ondabar uncovered a portal to the tomb of the Wind Duke general, Icosiol.

  • Wormcrawl Fissure - This plummeting chasm is an offshoot of Skull Gorge and the stronghold of Dragotha. It drops deep into the earth, with a cloud of mist hanging overhead that blocks most of the light from the surface. It teems with vermin, undead, and minions of Kyuss.

Cities

  • Daggerford - This small town is on the trade route between Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate. It was the home town to the initial group of adventurers who would become known as the Mercenaries. It is also home to Delfen "Yellowknife" Ondabar.

  • Kongen-Thulnir - This ancient city of giants lies somewhere within the Skull Gorge. According to the wild watchers of the Order of the Storm, it is the hiding place of the phylactery of Dragotha.

  • Kuluth-Mar - This ruined city is found deep in the southern jungles of Chult. In ancient times it was ruled by the mortal Kyuss and his religious cult. The population was destroyed in the cataclysmic ascension of Kyuss. The middle of the city contains the Spire of Long Shadows.

  • Longsaddle - Small settlement in northern Faerun. Home of the infamous Harpells.

  • Mintarn - This island nation and city is approximately 300 miles due West of Baldur's Gate. It is home to pirates, scoundrels, bandits, thieves and other miscreants. Mintarn is ruled by Tyrant Tarnheel Embuirhan.

  • Waterdeep - This fabulous northern city is also known as the City of Splendors. It is a nexus of trade and seat of great wealth in Faerun. Recent disaster at the annual Champion's Games resulted in tremendous loss of life and chaos in the city.

Artifacts

  • Apostolic Scrolls - These minor artifacts contain the information and magical power to elevate an ulgurstata to an Apostle of Kyuss. Each copy of the Apostolic Scrolls works only once, but there are rumored to be multiple copies in existance.

  • Fountain of Fortune's Folly - This pool has two cups. Anyone drinking from the pool via either cup recieves both a boon and a bane. Several of the party members imbibed from the fountain. It is currently in the possession of Malchor Harpell.
  • Hand of Myrkul - This insidious artifact is the severed left arm of the slain god, Myrkul. The hand is said to corrupt its user to evil and have the ability to debilitate and slay opponents. The hand is currently in the possession of, and attached to, Darl Quethos.
  • Shattered Scepter of Calim - This powerful item was used by the Wind Duke Icosiol in an ancient battle against the Army of Chaos. It was with this rod he was able to drive back the god of fire, Kossuth. In the process, the rod shattered into seven fragments. The Wind Dukes scattered the pieces across the multiverse, but some parts surface from time-to-time. A fragment can pinpoint the location of the next largest fragment. The party discovered the largest fragment in the tomb of Icosiol. In exchange for powerful magic tools, the party traded the fragment to Malchor Harpell.

  • Sphere of Annihilation - A sphere of annihilation is an extraordinarily dangerous spot of non-existence. It disintegrates things that it contacts, reducing them to nothingness. A wielder of a talisman of the sphere can attempt to control and move a sphere of annihilation.
  • Talisman of the Sphere - These minor artifacts allow the wielder to control the movement of a sphere of annihilation. The party discovered an inactive talisman of the sphere in the Whispering Cairn. It later activated to full strength in the tomb of Icosiol.
