MARTIAN MANHUNTER FAMILY
by Davy Stone & Chip Kraus

Other than Dr. Erdel (sp.?), the scientist who accidentally brought the Martian Manhunter to earth, J'onn J'onzz has never really had a superhero family of his own.  A real shame, too, considering the large role he's played in DC comics in general, the JLA in particular.  So in the interest of fairness, I decided to give him a family.

I wanted to follow a pattern that shows up in several other heroic families (adult hero -- teenage girl -- younger boy), and I quickly realized that there were very obvious choices for Manhunter's family, and fortunately we'd already customizied them!

Gypsy takes on the role of teenage female hero.  Her role in this family isn't that much of a stretch; during this runaway teen's tenure with the JLA, J'onn quickly became her mentor and father figure.  The two developed quite a rich relationship.    Two things really cemented her choice for this role: her ability to turn invisible (an ability that the Martian Manhunter also has), and the predominance of the color green in her outfit.

For the kid sidekick, I chose another obvious choice -- Changeling.  It's so obvious, in fact, I'm not sure why these two haven't hooked up in a mentor-mentee role officially.  Gar's coloring and ability to shape-shift really make him an obvious choice for this family.  I find it quite funny that these two "similar" characters haven't really been connected in any way.  It would have made a lot of sense, too, given Changeling's role in the Teen Titans, DC's former "Jr. JLA."  Oh well.  At least I'VE got enough sense to get Gar and J'onn together.
