PEDETIDAE (Springhares)

The Pedetidae (the "Springhares") is an African family of rodents
of uncertain
phylogenetic position (here placed in the Suborder Anomaluromorpha with the
Anomaluridae).
Its two living representatives are placed in the genus Pedetes,
one
species (capensis) ranging
through much of Southern Africa, the other
(surdaster) having a
more restricted distribution
in Kenya and Tanzania.
