The Echimyidae is a good-sized (18 genera and 84 living species) family of hystricomorph

southernmost Brazil), Echimyinae (6 genera and 29 species, Honduras southward to
southernmost Brazil), and Eumysopinae (9 genera and 49 species, Honduras southward

including San Miguel, San José and Bastimentos (all off Panama), Margarita, Trinidad
and Tobago, Gorgona (Colombia), and Grande, São Sebastiao and Santa Catarina
(all off southern Brazil).
