APLODONTIIDAE (Mountain Beaver)

The Aplodontiidae, perhaps the most primitive still-existing rodent group, is now represented by a
single species, Aplodontia rufa, the Mountain Beaver. Its distribution is restricted to western North
America, including portions of the U.S. states Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada, and
the Canadian province of British Columbia.
