Dr. Mohamed was born in Bangalore, India and did his undergraduate education in Mechanical Engineering from B.M.S. College of Engineering, Bangalore, India in 1979. Just before graduation he was hired by Widia (India) Ltd. as Technical Engineer and worked for them till December 1983. In January 1984 he came to University of Kentucky to do his post-graduate studies. In August 1989, he joined Western Kentucky University as an Assistant Professor of Management. He was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor in 1996 and as Professor in 2000. In 2001, he was selected as the Chair of Management Department.

 

Areas of Expertise

Professor Mohamed specializes in production and operations management. He has a broad base of experience, both in industry and academics. His research areas include issues dealing with supply chain management, flexible manufacturing systems, production planning, inventory management, scheduling, and operational aspects of multi-national companies. He joined Western in fall of 1989 and teaches courses in operations management, quantitative methods in business, and total quality management.

 

Professional Activities

Dr. Mohamed’s research work has been published in highly regarded journals such as European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Production Research, and others. Also, Dr. Mohamed‘s book ”Flexible Manufacturing Systems: Planning Issues and Solutions.” was published by Garland Publishing Company, New York, in 1994. In addition, he has published and presented more than thirty articles in the annual meetings of the Decision Sciences Institute and other professional meetings. He has served as a reviewer for European Journal of Operational Research, Production and Operations Management, International Journal of Human Factors in Manufacturing, International Journal of Advances in Management, IIE Transactions, and Decision Sciences Institute. He has also served as Session Chairperson and Discussant at numerous meetings. His consulting areas include supply chain management, production planning, inventory management, scheduling, productivity, quality management, and operational aspects of multi-national companies.
