Area of a Parallelogram.

The area of a parallelogram is given by A = (base)(height).

This page will be no fun if you don't get the images.
 

Positioning the parallelogram so that the long side is down will not change the area.  If the long side were called the height--instead of the base, as depicted above--then interchanging the labels "base" and "height" gives the same result.
