Western Kentucky University's Policy Regarding Withdrawing from a Class
-
A student is permitted to withdraw from any course with a grade of "W" through
the 8th week of class.
-
After the 8th week of class, any student dropping a course receives an automatic
"F." However, when there are extenuating circumstances, and at the discretion
of the faculty member and department head, the student may be permitted to
withdraw with a "W" instead of "F".
-
Exception to this policy are to be made only in exceptional cases when
extenuating circumstances clearly exist. The
policy will be enforced using the following procedure:
-
The schedule exception appeal form will be available in each department.
The student will need to obtain the form in the department in which the course
is offered. The student must provide a written statement, accompanied by
any relevant documentation, explaining the extenuating circumstances and
rationale for dropping the course past the deadline, obtain the instructor's
and department head's signatures of approval on the form and submit it to
the Office of the Dean. The dean will review the appeal and return it to
the student. The student will be responsible for presenting the signed form
to the Office of the Registrar.
-
Requests for withdrawals from individual courses will not be accepted after
the preparation of final grade rosters which occurs approximately one week
prior to the end of classes. Only those withdrawals printed by the computer
on the final grade roster will be accepted as withdrawals for the term.
If further clarification of the policy is needed, contact the Office of the
Registrar at extension 3351.
