Artist’s Statement

Caught between dream and duty this presentation is fraught with contradiction, and conflict, rapidly moving from point to counterpoint in a struggle for resolution. The condition of simultaneous polarity involves sets of independent and interrelated elements each focused on recognizing and reconciling its own transformation.

Process Statement

My work consists primarily of site responsive installations. Each opportunity for exhibition offers a unique set of parameters and references to define and respond to. In each case the exhibition space provides initial input into organizational possibilities as well as content orientation. Even the most neutral arena can encourage a sense of purpose or state of mind, which becomes the basis of the presentation.  In entering into this dialogue of place one necessarily carries the accumulated baggage of perceptions, attitudes, and experiences of the artist. Each project then becomes a matter of sorting relevance, priorities, and pressing concerns into a working response to the exhibition space.  I have to this end developed an open-ended vocabulary of materials, processes and elemental images. Several elements will be presented in shifting contexts and formats, establishing new relationships enhancing an expanding pattern of possibilities for interpretation and interaction. Themes are specifically derived from context.

The condition of simultaneous polarity involves sets of independent and interrelated elements each focused on recognizing and reconciling its own transformation. Caught between fantasy and duty these presentations are fraught with contradiction, and conflict, rapidly moving from point to counterpoint in a struggle for resolution.
