Policies

Academic Dishonesty:

“ Students who commit any act of academic dishonesty may receive from the instructor a failing grade in that portion of the course work in which the act was detected or a failing grade in a course without the possibility of withdrawal. The faculty member may also present the case to the Office of the Dean of Student Life for disciplinary sanctions.”

“No student shall receive or give assistance not authorized by the instructor in taking an examination or in the preparation of an essay, laboratory report, problem assignment or other project which is submitted for the purposes of grade determination.”

WKU Catalog Issue 2005-2007, page 26

Special Needs:

Students with disabilities who require accommodations (academic adjustments and/or auxiliary aids or services) for this course must contact the Office for Student Disability Services, Garrett 101. The OFSDS telephone number is

(270) 745-5004 V

Missed Exams

Make-up exams will not be given. An unexcused absence will result in a zero. An excused absence will result in having 75% of the Final Exam grade substituted for the missed exam and can only be done for one exam. Dr. Dahl must be notified 24 hours ahead of the exam and must be an acceptable excused absence for credit to be given.

If you have a course or a University-sponsored event scheduled that will be in conflict with an exam, you will be offered an alternate exam at an earlier time provided verification of your event. One week's notice is required for permission to take an earlier alternate exam. Work schedules or any other activities not listed are not acceptable reasons for an alternate exam.

Homework

A homework notebook will be maintained and assigned problems worked in it. The notebook should be a cloth bound (spiral will not be accepted) composition-type notebook. The problems will be completely worked out showing work where appropriate. Final numerical answers must be highlighted. Notebooks will be turned in prior to an exam and 10 problems will be graded randomly. Sloppy, unreadable (my discretion) will be returned un-graded with a score of 0 given. A notebook containing correctly worked problems will receive 10 points. For each problem missed, 1 point will be deducted. A further discussion of the requirements of this notebook will be discussed in class.
