Character Background:
Respen was born to a small elven family that had naturalized into Cormyrean society
centuries before. The elves dealt in minor magic items and became quite wealthy
merchants. Accordingly, Respen received the finest schooling and tutors money could
buy. He was taught swordsmanship from master duelists and spellcraft from promising
eldritch instructors. While his talent with the blade was formidable, it was the power
of magic which enthralled Respen.
Unlike most elves, Respen felt a kinship with his human countrymen and readily joined
the War Wizards out of a sense of duty. For thirty years, Respen served Cormyr as an
active War Wizard. Finally, he retired from active duty but made it clear he was available
as a reserve when needed. Since that time, he devotes most of his time to researching magic
and discovering new ways to augment his own casting ability. Occasionally he is
called in on an important mission; especially those requiring a powerful, precision
spellcasting with a large arsenal of combat magics.
Respen is a relaxed, easy-going elf who does not exhibit the haughty arrogance
so many elves are known for. He is very loyal to his home country and the humans,
elves, half-elves, dwarves, and other races living within. Respen takes orders fairly
well, but he sometimes accomplishes objectives in his own fashion. As he rarely fails,
this behavior is overlooked.
