GEOG/HIST/PS/SPAN 200: Introduction to Latin America (3 hours)
This (cross-listed) course is a broad interdisciplinary introduction to the study of Latin America, emphasizing its regions, peoples and cultures. Students may register for either GEOG 200, HIST 200, PS 200, or SPAN 200 (fulfills WKU Gen Ed Category E requirement). Taught by

GEOG 475: Selected Topics in Geography: Geography of Argentina (3 hours)
A survey of the contemporary geography of Argentina with emphasis on planning, environment, politics, and development strategies. Note: this course must be taken in combination with one of the other program courses. Taught by

SPAN 455 Topics in Hispanic Literary and Cultural Studies: Argentine Detective Stories (3 hours)
This course examines el cuento corto policiaco Argentino (Argentine detective short stories), and in particular works by Borges, Cortazar and Mempo. Imagine discussing a short story by Borges at a café in the neighborhood where some of the story’s action takes place. In addition to reading these stories, students keep a journal with notes and reflections about the readings and related experiences. This course is suited for students with advanced intermediate Spanish language proficiency.

Please note: Unless otherwise noted, courses are taught in English. Each student must take at least one three-credit hour course. However, students typically take two three-credit hour courses. The program fee is the same if you take one or two courses. A student cannot take more than two three-credit hour courses. All course credit will be issued by Western Kentucky University. The WKU Registrar will transfer your grades to your home institution approximately six weeks after the completion of the program. Course offerings are subject to change according to enrollment.
