HYAENIDAE (Hyenas)

The Hyaenidae is a small family of Old World carnivores consisting of three living genera: Crocuta (one
species, Africa south of the Sahara), Hyaena (two species, Africa, Southwest Asia, India, and Nepal),
and Proteles (one species, the "aardwolf," East and South Africa). In most of the areas where these forms
exist generally their range is becoming increasingly fragmented.
