Malvina Reynolds: Song Lyrics and Poems

Stranded on This Planet

Notes: words and music by Malvina Reynolds; copyright 1969 Schroder Music Company, renewed 1997.

Stranded on this planet, What a place!
It used to seem all right when I was young,
I guess it's different now from what it was,
This wounded outrage underneath the sun.

I think that I was left here by mistake,
Meant for a sister world in some far galaxy,
Where trees are left to grow and creatures are the same,
And love's so general, It hasn't even got a name.

I'm homesick for a star I've never seen,
I'm homesick for a place I've never been.
But reflections of it shine,
From these faces into mine,
And we're stranded on this derelict in the sky,
And we're stranded on this planet, you and I.
