Malvina Reynolds: Song Lyrics and Poems

Funny Bug Basin

Notes: words and music by Malvina Reynolds; copyright 1968 Schroder Music Company, renewed 1996. Malvina actually did see that sign somewhere in her travels, but couldn't remember where.

I drove along the highway
And I saw a little sign
Said Funny Bug Basin.
It pointed to some little town
A few miles off the line
Called Funny Bug Basin.
The town it had a funny name
I never can forget,
Tho I don't know where that highway was
And I haven't found it yet.

Chorus:
Fifteen miles to Funny Bug Basin,
Come and see the funny bug racin',
Funny bugs chasing each other around
Funny Bug Basin.

I dream about that little town,
And dream about the man
In Funny Bug Basin,
Who gave that place its funny name
When first that town began
Called Funny Bug Basin,
Where did he see that funny bug,
What was its Latin name,
However was it acting up,
And was it wild or tame.

(Chorus)

I'll ride around the highways
Till I see that sign again
Says Funny Bug Basin,
You bet I will not pass it by
The way that I did then,
Li'l Funny Bug Basin,
I'll ride along that shady road
Those funny bugs to see,
And since I am a funny bug,
Why that's the place for me.

(Chorus)
