Character Background: Gorin was born in Berdusk, of the Western Heartland. There half celestials are raised to serve as guardians at Swordspoint Hall, a place of worship for Tempus. His father was a Solar warrior, and his mother was a local woman, who birthed Gorin in service to Tempus.
Gorin's martial training began nearly at birth, and by age 9 he was very competent with in combat, but he started to have trouble getting along as his competitiveness became fierce. He hated to lose to his teachers, and hated even more to lose to the older students. His intense competitiveness coupled with his hatred of losing eventually caused him to lose everything. He was sparring with one of the older students, and fought hard enough to score in a sparring match. The older student was embarrassed, and to save face he struck Gorin down viciously. Gorin snapped at the sight of his own blood on the ground, and was swept into a furious rage. When he regained his composure, the older student, who was his brother, was slain.
The punishment that was handed down was as swift as it was harsh. Gorin was expelled from his training, and admonished by his father. He was never to return to his home, and was never to have contact with his family again. Tempus, also renounced the young cleric warrior, and with that all of Gorin's divine powers were gone. He had not magic, no home, no family, and no God. Most would have taken their own life to regain some sort of dignity, but Gorin, instead, looked inside for strength, and decided that he would prove them all wrong about him. He wished to become a great warrior, and show his father and Tempus that they were wrong to punish him for what he had done. After all, what had he done? He won a battle. He fought valiantly, didn't he? His foe was older, and stronger, and better trained. He should have gotten accommodation, not punishment.
Since he could think of nothing he enjoyed more than battle, he traveled west down the trade route to the Dragon Coast city of Westgate, where he would fight for his living in the arena. He won nearly all of his arena fights, but the rages took their emotional tole on him. He was no longer able to control his rage, and he began to feed off the crowd's lust for blood.
He was visited one day by a vision of Garagos, the Lord of the Battle. He was impressed with his combat skills, and was empathetic of his emotional problems. Gorin was encouraged by Garagos's offers of divine power, and came to worship the Insane Diety at The house of Steel, where Gorin traded in Tempus's favored Battle Axe, for the strong steel of Garagos's sword. Gorin now lives to expose Tempus's weaknesses and to help Garagos gain power and dethrone Tempus as the God of War and Battle.
As Gorin found his new religion and purpose for life, so did he take a new name. He would no longer bare the unmentionable name his father had bestowed on him, but instead he took "Bloodreaver" as his last name in honor of the clerics of Garagos.
