Welcome to the online section of Introduction to Philosophy.

Please stop now and ask yourself: Is the online method appropriate for me?

Note to student : As a first test, you should be willing and able to read through this syllabus, taking all points. If you find that you do not care to do a careful, systematic read of the syllabus, then it is unlikely that you will invest the attention to detail that is required to complete this online course.

If you have taken online classes before and been satisfied with your experience, then you have a fair view of how this section of Phil 120 will work. If you have not taken an online class previously, you should go to the WKU homepage and search for -- and review carefully -- the general information concerning online classes and instruction at WKU.

You do not come to campus to take this class. This allows you more freedom than does a traditional on-campus course. However, with the freedom comes responsibility. You will need to be motivated and disciplined to do the course work on your own, in a timely manner. Be honest with yourself because the course schedule holds you, and your course grade, to a strict timeline.

Please understand that "online" means that you can access course information in a way that may be more convenient to you. "Online" does not mean, in this case, that you may adjust the course to fit your schedule. Watch assignment times and be responsible for meeting the posted deadlines.

Note Carefully: The accelerated nature of this class, i.e., a May Term course, entails that the turnaround time between graded assignments is brief: in other words, for example, there is never much of a gap as between the due date for a graded assignment and the due date for the next graded assignment. Students should weigh this quick turnaround factor, in conjunction with the general schedule that is provided below, to consider carefully if the course will be suitable to the individual student's style of learning.
